Airedale Symphony Orchestra [ASO] will present stunningly powerful and exciting music inspired by Romeo and Juliet at the King’s Hall in Ilkley on Sunday 29 June.
The orchestra will perform:
- Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet overture
- Clyne, Anna: Dance - featuring cellist Adam Cathcart
- Márquez: Conga del Fuego
- Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story

“Full of intense emotion, jazzy latin vibes, and beautiful music - we will have a huge orchestra onstage with every musical instrument possible pulling at your heart strings.
“Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet overture fantasy is so famous you will recognise it instantly as the love theme in many films and dramas. Full of tension and drama, we meet the young lovers, delight in their love and mourn their tragic end.
“Performing the achingly beautiful, poignant and powerful 'Dance' by Grammy nominated superstar composer Anna Clyne will be incredible local cellist, Adam Cathcart. This emotional roller coaster depicts the heartache of relationship breakup, get your tissues ready!
“West Side Story is the award winning, groundbreaking musical based on Romeo and Juliet set in 1950’s New York gang culture. Redefining dance theatre with its jazzy explosion of exciting, powerful music that you’ll know and love, this suite is a whistle stop tour of of the musical, complete with fight scenes, a dance with a ‘Mambo’ that will have you itching to join in, and the timeless story of love between the young couple.”
