Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is saying a big 'thank you' to its team of volunteers for the support provided to staff and patients at the hospital.
It's ahead of Volunteers' Week next week (3rd to 9th June), which recognises the UK’s incredible volunteers for their contribution to local communities, the voluntary sector and to society as a whole.
To celebrate, Airedale is hosting a series of events, starting with a coffee morning for volunteers to get together and socialise. There will be stands throughout the week, where patients, their families and staff can show their appreciation.
Airedale has around 200 registered hospital volunteers working in more than 20 wards and departments within the hospital, including the Emergency Department, Maternity Ward, Chaplaincy and HODU (Haematology and Oncology day unit). The volunteers also give their time and skills to serve in the Friends of Airedale shops, as well as helping vulnerable patients on the wards.
Gurmit Jauhal, Airedale’s voluntary services manager says: “Our volunteers are simply amazing. We value and appreciate the wonderful support they give to patients, staff and visitors. They make a such positive difference to people’s lives and are an integral part of our hospital team. We truly thank them for the time they give to help others and for their dedication to this hospital and the patients that come here.”
Foluke Ajayi, Chief Executive Officer at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust adds: “I’d like to thank our wonderful team of volunteers who provide services across many areas of the Trust that make a real difference to our patients, their families and visitors. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and dedication.”
Volunteer Shirley Moorehouse says: “I have been a volunteer for over 22 years. I have done several different roles over the years and enjoyed each one of them. I am currently a volunteer on HODU, where I come in three times a week. I love helping the staff and patients. I feel like I am part of the family on the ward and the patients are so grateful for what we do for them.”
Allan Biggs says: “I became a volunteer because I wanted to help others. I am a volunteer on the Emergency Department and think my role is amazing. Every shift is different and exciting as I really enjoy meeting and supporting people in any way I can.”
