On the 50th Anniversary of his death, Shostakovich’s music still blazes with defiance and beauty, and Airedale Symphony Orchestra will take to the King’s Hall stage on Sunday afternoon to perform three pieces.
Britten: Four Sea Interludes, Wallen: Mighty River and Shostakovich 5th Symphony.
A spokesperson for Airedale Symphony Orchestra said:
“Experience an afternoon of musical drama, exploring music that inspired Shostakovich - Britten’s Four Sea Interludes and music inspired by his legacy - Wallen’s Mighty River. Both composers transform sea and river into towering orchestral storytelling about the society and communities they are set in. While Shostakovich’s fifth symphony is an artistic tightrope walk between survival and subversion in Stalinist Russia.”
With a massive symphony orchestra on stage, this is incredible music to stir the senses and inspire action – and experience not to be missed.
Tickets are available online www.ticketsource.co.uk/airedale-symphony-orchestra, by phone 0333 666 3366, and on the door until sold out; £10-£17 (Under 11's free).
