On 5th November 2025, Beau Monde Perfumery & Beauty Salon in Ilkley proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of beauty, customer support, and exceptional service.
Founded in 1995 by Jenny Paxton and Maria Carrera, Beau Monde is a much-loved part of Ilkley’s business community. Located on Church Street, it is home to an elegant upstairs beauty salon, which achieved Clarins Gold Salon status in 2002, and a downstairs perfumery and boutique offering an extensive range of premium brands and thoughtful gifts.
Jenny and Maria first met while working together at Scotts of Ilkley (chemist and pharmacy) on Brook Street. When Scotts closed in the mid-1990s, the pair decided to follow their shared dream, creating a space that combined luxury beauty treatments with a carefully curated selection of perfumes and cosmetics. From day one, they have proudly stocked leading names such as Chanel, Clarins, Guerlain, and Hermès, among others, all of which remain trusted partners today.
After nearly three decades at the helm, Maria retired in 2023, and the salon welcomed Alex Baker, a long-standing Beau Monde beauty therapist, as co-owner. Alex now manages the salon and its extensive programme of beauty treatments, while Jenny continues to lead the perfumery and retail operations, supported by the friendly and knowledgeable Gay Cargill and Ann Eaton, who have been part of the Beau Monde family since 2014.
Beau Monde offers something for everyone, from indulgent luxury items to more affordable everyday treats. The shop’s shelves are filled with skincare, make-up, fragrances, accessories, and beautiful gift ideas, all chosen with care and expertise.
Under the leadership of Jenny and Alex, the business continues to thrive, maintaining its exceptional standards of beauty therapy and customer care, while welcoming both long-standing clients and new visitors alike.
Reflecting on the salon’s milestone, Jenny Paxton shared:
“We’re so proud to celebrate 3 decades in the town. There have been many changes over the last 30 years; our families have grown, the town has evolved, and yet Beau Monde has remained a constant in our lives. It’s been wonderful to see our clients grow up with us too. Some who once visited with their parents and took delight in receiving little perfume samples are now bringing in their own children to do the same!
“Things haven’t always been easy of course. We’ve weathered challenges from COVID to the current economic climate, but we’re still here, and that’s thanks to our loyal customers, to whom we’re so grateful. Independent businesses like ours rely on community support, and we’re proud to be part of Ilkley’s vibrant high street. You simply can’t replicate the personal touch online, whether it’s helping someone find the perfect foundation, sample and select a fragrance, or choose and beautifully wrap a special gift. We’re always here to offer friendly advice, support, and of course, a warm smile and a listening ear. And after 30 years, we still love doing just that!”
Alex Baker added:
“We’re excited for the next 30 years and beyond. The world of beauty and retail is changing, and we’re evolving with it, but what will never change is the heart and essence of Beau Monde. It’s about genuine connection, expert advice, and the friendly, personal service that Jenny and Maria built this business on.”
