Ilkley residents are being encouraged to step up their recycling efforts this week for the 2025 Rescue Me! Recycle Week campaign
Now in its twenty second year, Recycle Week is the nation’s biggest annual celebration of recycling.
This Recycle Week, which runs 22 – 28 September, Recycle Now and Bradford Council are proud to support the Rescue Me! Recycle campaign.
The week provides the chance to reflect on how small changes can make a big impact. Whether it's rethinking what we throw away, learning how to recycle better, or inspiring others to take action, every little step counts.
The campaign continues to shine a spotlight on missed items that too often end up in the rubbish bin but can, and should, be recycled.
Following the success of last year’s national campaign, Rescue Me! Recycle returns with three new characters joining the recycling mission:
- Shampoo bottles
- Foil
- Toothpaste tubes
The above three items join the list from last year:
- Trigger sprays
- Aerosols
- Yoghurt pots
- Aftershave and perfume bottles
- Toilet roll tubes
Throughout the week Bradford Council’s recycling team will be out and about the district running workshops in schools and visiting supermarkets with the recycling exhibition vehicle, answering residents questions. Alongside this there will be a social media campaign and other communications, explaining what materials can be recycled and what materials need to go in which bin.
Top tips for recycling in the Bradford district :
- Try recycle more of these items: shampoo bottles and foil.
- Make sure you recycle these items: cleaning product bottles, aerosols, yoghurt pots, aftershave and perfume bottles, toilet roll tubes, plastic toiletry bottles and food tins.
- Check your recycling knowledge: what can and can't be recycled in Bradford district
- Put the right thing in the right bin
Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Portfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places, said:
"We are calling on our residents to think again about recycling. By rescuing those missed items, we can make our recycling efforts even more impactful.
“Recycling doesn’t have to be confusing. You can find out what can be recycled by visiting the Council’s website at www.bradford.gov.uk/recycling. Let’s keep up the great work and make our district’s recycling better than ever before.”
Catherine David, CEO, WRAP, said:
“Recycle Week continues to be a powerful moment to inspire action across the UK, and this year’s ‘Rescue Me! Recycle’ campaign is no exception. By highlighting everyday items like shampoo bottles, foil, and toothpaste tubes—things we often overlook—we’re helping people see the real impact of small changes. Thanks to innovation and collaboration, more of these items can now be recycled than ever before. Together we’re making it easier to do the right thing and keep valuable materials in use. Let’s rescue these items from the rubbish and give them a second life.”
