Ilkley held a solemn Remembrance Sunday parade and service yesterday at the Ilkley Memorial Garden, in honour of all those who have served and sacrificed on behalf of the nation in both World Wars and subsequent conflicts.

The parade, organised by Dougie Lawson from the Royal British Legion, featured a traditional parade of local dignitaries, armed forces, and uniformed organizations marching from Whitton Croft Road to the Memorial Gardens.

The ceremony featured a civic welcome from The Mayor of Ilkley, Cllr Jane Gibson, and a service led by Father Alex Crawford from St Margaret’s Church.

A moving programme of readings, music and wreath-laying marked the event. Deputy Town Mayor Cllr Amanda Simmonds read verses from Romans 12, reflecting on duty, service and compassion.
The Ilkley Singers performed the hymn “I Vow to Thee My Country,” accompanied by Dr Geoffrey Cloke, providing a powerful musical backdrop to the proceedings.
Dignitaries attending included local Member of Parliament Robbie Moore and the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, who, along with representatives from local groups and members of the public, laid wreaths at the memorial.

The Act of Remembrance followed with the holding of two minutes' silence, and the service ended with The National Anthem.
