National Know Your Numbers Week, running from 8th to 14th September, is an initiative by Blood Pressure UK.
The initiative aims to encourage people to get their blood pressure checked.
In Ilkley, a free self-service blood pressure checks will be available at the Library on Monday 8th September between 10:00-12:00.
High blood pressure, often described as the “silent killer,” has no symptoms but increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, dementia and other illnesses.
Around a third of people in the UK are thought to have high blood pressure, with many unaware of their condition.
Regular checks can help detect problems early and allow people to take action to reduce their risks.
Nearby, self-service checks are available at the Springs Medical Centre in Ilkley during opening hours.
Pharmacies are also offering free blood pressure checks to people aged over 40 who have not previously been diagnosed with hypertension or had a check in the past six months.
Depending on results, pharmacists may provide advice, further monitoring, or a referral to a GP.
Know Your Numbers Week aims to raise awareness and encourage action to prevent health issues linked to high blood pressure, with checks available in libraries, pharmacies, and community spaces.
