Coaches, parents and local businesses from the Ilkley area will come face to face on the pitch later this month in a tournament set to raise funds for local children’s charity, The Principle Trust.
The Ilkley T5s Tag Rugby Tournament will take place on Sunday 27 April in aid of The Trust, which provides free respite breaks to children who are underprivileged, disadvantaged, disabled, have life-limiting conditions, or who have experienced poverty, trauma or abuse.
The ‘Tag-of War’ kicks off at 12.00 at Ilkley Rugby Club and is being supported by businesses including British Gas and tournament sponsor Ray Chapman Motors, whilst radio station ‘Your Ilkley’ will host the event and provide commentary.
The tournament will involve 128 players, comprising coaches, parents and guests, each battling their way to the final which is scheduled for 3.20pm. Advancement through to the Grand Final promises to be action packed, with each match lasting just five minutes. Pitch side family entertainment, including Mini Olympics, a bouncy castle and refreshments will be available from 11:30am to 4:00pm.
Now in its second year, the high-speed clash has been organised by Ilkley RFC’s Under 10 coaching team. Last year’s event raised £5000 for the charity. Lead organiser, Pete Small, commented:
‘Thanks to the support of parents, players, spectators and local businesses, last year’s inaugural tournament was a huge success; this year we’re looking forward to another fun family event and to raising as much money as possible to fund respite breaks for disadvantaged families across Yorkshire.’
Established in 2011 by Ilkley businessman Mike Davies, MBE, every year The Principle Trust funds respite breaks for hundreds of children experiencing long term, life threatening or limiting illnesses disabilities, mental health issues or social deprivation. To date the charity has provided respite breaks for 5400 children across the Yorkshire region.
