Dive beneath the waves and into a world of enchantment as Upstagers Theatre Group presents Disney’s The Little Mermaid at The King’s Hall, Ilkley, from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th July 2025, including two matinee performances.
Based on the beloved animated film and Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale, The Little Mermaid tells the story of Ariel, a curious young mermaid who longs to live on land. When she falls for the handsome Prince Eric, she makes a risky bargain with the sea witch Ursula, trading her voice for a chance to be part of the human world. With unforgettable songs like “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World,” and “Kiss the Girl,” this colourful, heart-warming production will captivate audiences of all ages.
Co-director John Clark said:
“This is a show full of magic, humour and heart—but it’s also one of the most technically ambitious we’ve ever taken on. Almost everything you see on stage has been designed and built from scratch. It’s been an incredible creative challenge, and we can’t wait for audiences to see the result. It’s a show that is loved by so many people and can be enjoyed whether you are 7 or 70. There is the familiarity of the much loved animated Disney film and there is depth and themes that we hope we have brought to the surface to satisfy all audience members.”
The production stars a talented mix of Upstagers regulars and exciting new faces, supported by a live orchestra, dazzling costumes, stunning underwater sets, and some sea-riously clever special effects. The cast, crew and creative team have worked tirelessly to bring this rarely performed Disney musical to life on the Ilkley stage.
Co-director Andrew Hewitt added:
“It’s a spectacle in every sense, and like all great Disney stories, it’s really about finding your voice, staying true to yourself, and discovering where you belong.
"Don’t miss your chance to go Under the Sea with Ariel and friends. This is one summer show you’ll never forget."
