A new captivating photography exhibition opens at Ilkley Manor House this Saturday, ‘Landscapes of Identity’.
Running until 6th October, this exhibition aims to unravel the dialogue between land and identity, exploring how our environments shape us and how we, in turn, leave our mark upon them.
The artists featured—Carolyn Mendelsohn, Robert Darch, Jonathan Dayman, Benjamin Statham, and Andreea Chițan-Woodier—each present distinct lenses through which to examine the confluence of culture, identity, and the natural world. From Mendelsohn's poignant celebration of the multifaceted connection between women and nature to Darch's incisive commentary on societal divides, this exhibition weaves a rich tapestry of visual narratives that resonate deeply with the complexities of contemporary issues.
Andreea Chițan-Woodier, the exhibition curator, explains:
"This exhibition invites you on a journey of discovery, where each piece not only tells a story, but also ignites conversations that transcend boundaries." Such reflections encourage viewers to delve into their own perceptions and biases, fostering a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of our environments.
As part of the exhibition, Ilkley Manor House will also host cyanotype workshops led by a local artist. The opening reception on 31 August presents an opportunity for attendees to engage directly with the artists, gaining invaluable insights into their creative processes and the personal narratives that inform their work.
