After more than two decades away, the Addingham Village Quiz returned to a packed Memorial Hall on Saturday night, with local pub team The Swan crowned champions of the 2025 edition.
The event was a lively re-launch of a much-loved tradition.
The quiz was first organised by Terry Emmott in the 1980s and 1990s, with funds supporting good causes such as children’s cancer charity Candlelighters.
Among the fondly remembered highlights was a late-1990s final in which an underdog scratch side, Odds & Sods, stormed unexpectedly to the final before being beaten by The Swan – making this year’s victory feel like a homecoming.
In fact, history repeated itself in more ways than one: Ian Taylor, one of this year’s winning team members from The Swan, also featured in that victorious 1990s line-up.
Eight village teams competed in a knockout format on stage, including the Civic Society, the Drama Group, the Bowling Club and the Scouts.
After an evening of quick-fire questions, buzzers, and plenty of friendly rivalry, The Swan emerged triumphant in the final against the Panto Group.

The revived quiz also served a charitable purpose.
All proceeds are being distributed to local causes via Addingham Beer Festival, which raises and channels funds to groups and projects within the village.
Organiser and quizmaster Mark Gregory said:
“It was a privilege to bring the quiz back to the Memorial Hall, and to see the community spirit on show.
“Congratulations to The Swan, and thank you to every team who took part.”
