Outside the Box Café in Ilkley has unveiled a new, bespoke piece of artwork created by 29-year-old autistic artist Emy Spinks, whose vibrant creative style has captured the hearts of people both locally and around the world.
After discovering Emy’s work on social media, the team at Outside the Box [OTB] commissioned her to create a piece for the café’s family area. OTB said Emy exceeded all expectations, producing a large, colourful artwork that celebrates inclusivity, community, delicious food, and everything that makes Outside the Box special. In addition to the main piece, Emy generously donated several smaller artworks to brighten the space even further.
On Monday 17th November, Emy visited the café alongside her support workers India and Alice to reveal the artwork in person and learn more about the work that Outside the Box does to support its members - adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.

During her visit, Emy enjoyed lunch in the café, joined a morning cooking session, and even took part in the afternoon craft activity, where she created more art with members.
Emy, based in Selby, uses art as a powerful form of self-expression and communication. With support, she shares her talent globally, selling artwork created in her home studio and producing pieces for community spaces across the country.
Her work is currently displayed in four care homes, several community venues, and two hospitals, bringing colour, joy, and connection to the people who encounter it. Emy’s online platforms have also attracted a large following, where behind-the-scenes videos of her creative process inspire viewers daily.

India, Emy’s Support Worker said:
"What a wonderful day we had visiting Outside the Box and dropping off the artwork Emy’s created for their café space. We had a lovely lunch and even joined in the craft session."
Amy Robinson, Marketing and Events Manager, Outside the Box, commented:
"We would like to say a huge thank you to Emy and India for creating this bespoke and beautiful piece of artwork for us. It encapsulates all we do at OTB and is so bright and colourful—perfect for our family room space. We loved having you visit and see just what we do!"
Members of the public are warmly invited to visit Outside the Box Café to view Emy’s artwork on display and experience the welcoming, inclusive atmosphere the café is known for.
