Thanks to the overwhelming support of its Comfort Chairs campaign, Airedale Hospital & Community Charity has proudly gifted eight specialist recliner chairs to enhance comfort for the families of patients in their final days.
The campaign was launched to support Airedale NHS Foundation Trust’s Palliative Care team and aimed to fund comfortable recliner chairs for every ward at Airedale General Hospital.
The purchase of eight chairs marks a significant milestone in enhancing care for patients and their families across the hospital, enabling the team to continue providing both essential clinical care and vital emotional and psychological support.
Each chair provides comfort and dignity, allowing relatives and friends to sit or sleep at the bedside, so that no family has to leave their loved one’s side during life’s most difficult time.
Thanks to incredible support from the community and local businesses, including Global Precision Group, Skipton Auto Services and Leightons Estate Agents, the campaign has raised over £12,000.

These chairs provide more than physical comfort, they allow families to stay close, creating space for compassion and connection in the most challenging times.
We are so grateful to everyone who donated and supported this appeal, and would like to give special thanks to Karen Jones, our End of Life Support Assistant, whose efforts, including organising a raffle and bake sale, played a vital role in helping us achieve this.”

“These chairs make a huge difference to the care we can provide. Being able to offer families a comfortable place to stay close to their loved one brings real comfort and helps create a more peaceful, supportive environment at such a difficult time.
The new chairs are on the wards and in use, and we have already seen the positive impact they are having on patients and their families. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who made this possible.”
The charity remains dedicated to ensuring every ward has access to a specialist comfort chair, with remaining funds helping to maintain the chairs and support future patients and their loved ones.
