Burst water main adds to A65 disruption in Ilkley

A burst water main has added to ongoing roadworks on the A65 in Ilkley, with drivers warned to expect longer delays.

Yorkshire Water says it recently discovered the burst close to planned clean water pipe connection works at the junction of Skipton Road (A65) and Victoria Avenue.

The utility company had already begun work to connect clean water pipes to new domestic properties following a formal Section 45 notice from a local developer.

However, the additional repair work means two sets of temporary traffic lights are now needed on Skipton Road.

Motorists are being urged to obey the traffic signals, with Yorkshire Water warning that driving through red lights will only cause further congestion.

To help reduce disruption, Victoria Avenue has been closed at its junction with Skipton Road for the duration of the works. Residents can still access the road and park via Dale View Road.

Contractor Avove is carrying out the clean water pipe connection, while MGroup is repairing the burst water main.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said:

"We're encouraging motorists to pay close attention to the traffic lights. Ignoring the signals and driving through when a red light is showing will cause further delays.

"We're also trying to repair the burst water main as soon as possible, which will allow us to remove some of the traffic management."

Yorkshire Water hopes to complete the pipe connection works by 24th August.
