Did you attend Ilkley Grammar School? The school is creating an alumni network of pass students and needs your help.
In June, Ilkley Grammar School [IGS] welcomed a group of 16 former pupils back to their old school to mark 60 years since leaving in 1966. The alumni were welcomed by Deputy Headteacher Jamie Gutch and enjoyed a guided tour of the school, giving them the opportunity to reflect on both cherished memories and the many changes that have taken place over the decades.
It was a timely visit as the Class of 1966 were some of the first students to benefit from new buildings built in the 1960s such as the gym and B Hall (which at the time were brand new and ‘state of the art’) but which are all due to be redeveloped over the coming years.
The former pupils hope to meet again in 2028 and look forward to seeing the completion of the new buildings currently under construction on the Ilkley Grammar School campus.
Jamie Gutch said:
“It was an absolute pleasure to welcome back this significant group of IGS alumni from 1966. It was fascinating to share stories about the past and the present, and to be able to share our plans for the future. We would very much like to reach out to all our alumni from the 1960s right up to the present day. We are doing this through LinkedIn but also through a simple online form which will allow alumni to get in touch with us and tell us their stories. We currently have just over 1000 followers on LinkedIn and nearly 500 people have already connected to IGS via their LinkedIn Education section.
“We are also planning a number of events specifically for alumni around the school rebuilding programme such as tours of the new facilities and the PTA is also planning to hold at least one ‘school disco’ in BHall before it is taken down to make way for the new facilities in a couple of years’ time."
Did you participate in the in the French Exchange to Coutances which is now entering its 80th year, the school would like to hear from you as Jamie explains:
“We are planning a number of events and activities to mark this significant anniversary. Alumni who participated in the exchange and who would like to join in with celebration events should contact me via admin@igs.mlt.co.uk and put ‘Coutances Exchange’ in the title box."
