Ilkley and Otley Choral Societies will again be joining together to perform Antonin Dvorak’s wonderful Stabat Mater at the Winter early start time of 5.30pm on Saturday 22nd March in St. Margaret’s Church, Ilkley.
With over one hundred voices, four delightfully talented young soloists, and Yorkshire Chamber Ensemble, this promises to be a stunning early evening concert that will appeal to a wide audience.
Under the baton of Musical Director Alex Kyle, this enduring choral work by this master composer uses all the colours of the orchestra, choir and solo singers. Dvořák's setting of this ancient hymn has a highly dramatic, operatic quality, ending with a blazing depiction of 'paradisi gloria' - the glorious paradise of Heaven.
Ilkley and Otley Choral Societies will also be performing C. H. H. Parry's heartfelt and well-known piece 'My Soul, There is a Country' from his Songs of Farewell.
Sally Sumpner, Chair of Ilkley Choral Society, said:
“This lovely and popular work will sound simply stunning in the magnificent St. Margaret’s church, and we look forward to providing a splendid evening of entertainment with a superior raffle, hot drinks and a cash bar to make a very enjoyable evening.”
Tickets at £20 are available from The Grove Bookshop Ilkley, Brown’s Gallery Otley and online at ilkleystabatmater.eventbrite.co.uk
