The Friends of Ilkley Moor volunteers recently held walks to help people learn about the archaeology and heritage of Ilkley Moor.
An archaeology walk for people to discover the rich archaeology of Ilkley Moor took place on Saturday 14th September, led by Gavin Edwards. This walk started from the Cow and Calf car park with an uphill climb to the Green Crag Slack area of the moor, where there is a large concentration of archaeological features. People discovered the enclosure, boundary features and many cup and ring marked rocks. A very informative event enjoyed by everyone who attended.
On Sunday the 15th of September the Twelve Apostles and Beyond heritage walk took place. People climbed to the highest point of the moor to discover the landscape views, ecology and some of the archaeological heritage of Ilkley Moor.
The FoIM’s regular volunteers have been out each week this month undertaking habitat management on Ilkley Moor for the benefit of wildlife conservation and helping to restore and maintain footpath networks.
Everyone had a great time on the events and volunteer workdays and look forward to attending more events from this year’s events and learning programme.
The Friends of Ilkley Moor have received grant support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to help deliver these events and volunteer days, made possible by National Lottery players.
