Horror fans are in for a treat next month at The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley with the visit of author Emma Cleary.
Emma will be visiting the shop to discuss her dark, feminist debut novel, Our Monstrous Bodies on Thursday 11 June from 7pm.
Inspired by classic 1970s film Don’t Look Now, the novel follows sisters Brooke and Izzy. In the wake of an ill-omened romance with a horror cinephile, Brooke arrives in Vancouver to care for her sister, Izzy, who is facing reproductive surgery. But as she seeks solace in the films her ex-girlfriend loved, Brooke soon finds traces of horror bleeding from the screen into her own life.

Bookseller Emily Devane said:
"We can’t wait to host this special event with Emma, and we’re delighted she’s included Ilkley on her U.K. tour with her uncanny debut, Our Monstrous Bodies. Emma is an author to watch.’ Originally from Liverpool, Emma Cleary now lives in Vancouver. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing and is editor-in-chief of Geist Magazine.
"The book will appeal to fans of Julia Armfield and Eliza Clark. The Lamb author Lucy Rose, who appeared at the bookshop last year said: ‘Our Monstrous Bodies is feral and mesmerising. It’s a novel that glitters with menace. Emma Cleary is a startling writer, and this is a completely unforgettable and uncanny debut."
Tickets to the event are £7 (or £22 including a copy of the book). To reserve your place, pop into the shop, use Eventbrite or RSVP via the bookshop website.
