A care home in Ilkley is inviting local residents to enjoy flavours from around the world at a community food festival next month.
Mayfield View, on Lower Railway Road, will open its doors on Thursday, 6 August, from 2.30pm until 4.30pm for an afternoon celebrating international cuisine, culture and community. The event will feature dishes inspired by residents' and team members' favourite foods from around the world, with Head Chef Kian Tscherniga preparing a menu including Poloo, Yema, samosas and mango lassi. The home will also be decorated with handmade recycled bunting and a wooden recycled food cart as part of the festival celebrations. Resident Diana said: "I am really looking forward to sampling lots of flavours from around the world which remind me of travelling with my husband." The event forms part of Care UK's nationwide "A Taste of Home" initiative, with care homes across the country hosting food-themed celebrations designed to showcase life in care homes while bringing local communities together. The initiative also highlights sustainability and celebrates the diverse cultures represented by residents and care teams, alongside seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients. Katie Cliff, Home Manager at Mayfield View, said: "We're so excited to host our very own food festival, which promises to be a memorable day for everyone who comes along. "At Mayfield View, we're home to residents and team members from a wonderfully diverse range of cultures. "This event is a chance to celebrate them through food, showcasing flavours from Ghana, the Philippines, Romania, Egypt and Eastern Europe. "Many are favourites of ours, so we can't wait for guests to try. "We look forward to welcoming the Ilkley community for what promises to be a fantastic day of food, culture and connection." Mayfield View provides residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care, and includes facilities such as a cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub to support residents in leading active and independent lives. The food festival is free to attend, with members of the local community invited to book a place in advance with the home.
