Ilkley Civic Society is marking a milestone 60 years with a successful Hydro Exhibition, a busy AGM, and spring/summer program of events.
Ilkley Civic Society [ISC] say the Hydro Exhibition earlier this year at Ilkley Manor House drew many visitors, many who weren't aware of Ilkley’s spa and hydro history.
A spokesperson for ICS said:
"Thanks to those who acted as Stewards at the Exhibition, we are very grateful for your help. Also many thanks to members of the Local History Hub for putting the information together for the Exhibition."
The Society’s Annual General Meeting saw good turnout and the existing Officers and Committee were re-elected enbloc. The Chairman’s and Treasurer’s reports are available on the Society website; printed copies can be emailed on request by contacting Kate at contact@civicsociety.ilkley.org
Programme highlights mentioned at the AGM included a popular guided walk on April 25 to the site of the Spa Hydro, which examined changes in Ilkley village over time.
On Wednesday 20 May at 2pm, the Society will unveil a new Blue Plaque at Wells House, marking 170 years since the house was built. Attendees should meet by the entrance steps and will be invited into the Atrium before a walk around the house and lake; the original Blue Plaque in Darwin Gardens will remain in place.
As part of ICS's 60th Anniversary activities, volunteers are improving the Canker Well Garden and installing an interpretive notice board describing the site’s history. The Society invites the public to join a celebration on Thursday 18 June from 2pm; RSVPs are requested to help plan numbers, email contact@civicsociety.ilkley.org. Refreshments will follow at Outside The Box Café in Ilkley. Prior to the celebration, volunteer planting and digging sessions will take place on Tuesday 5 May and Monday 11 May at 6:30pm, for anyone wishing to help.
Future walks include:
Saturday 20th June, 2pm:
Ilkley’s Health Heritage, meet at Canker Well Garden, The Grove
Saturday 25th July, 2pm:
Eastern Hydros (including Craiglands), meet at Cowpasture Road/Wheatley Road junction
Saturday 15 August, 2pm
