Ilkley MP continues battle to reopen local tips

Robbie Moore MP (left) has renewed his calls for action on local tips.

Ilkley MP Robbie Moore says he will continue pressing Bradford Council to provide a new household waste and recycling centre for the town.

The Conservative MP has renewed his calls for action following the closure of Ilkley's Golden Butts Household Waste and Recycling Centre in 2024.

Robbie is also calling on Bradford Council to remove the former Sugden End Household Waste and Recycling Centre in the Worth Valley from its Asset Disposal Register and reopen the site.

He said:

"I am firmly of the view that Bradford Council must take the Sugden End Tip in the Worth Valley off their Asset Disposal Register and reopen the site as a Household Waste and Recycling Centre as soon as possible.

"I can't quite believe the new Leadership at Bradford Council have been in place for nearly three months and they haven't removed the Sugden End site off the Asset Disposal Register yet."

Turning to Ilkley, Robbie said Bradford Council must now identify and open a replacement site following the sale of the Golden Butts facility.

He claims the closures have led to an increase in fly-tipping, higher kerbside waste collections, reduced recycling rates and growing pressure on the household waste and recycling centre at Royd Ings Avenue in Keighley, where he says long queues are common.

Robbie added:

"Given Bradford Council have sold the Golden Butts Household Waste and Recycling Site, they must commit to find a new location in Ilkley - and open it.

"Both your local Conservative Councillor Team and I will not stop calling on the new Leadership at Bradford Council to get our tips reopened - as soon as possible."

Bradford Council has previously said it is reviewing its waste and recycling provision across the district.

The authority has not announced plans for a replacement household waste and recycling centre in Ilkley.
