Ilkley residents are being urged to have their say on proposed changes to fireworks laws as the Government launches a public consultation on tougher regulations.
MP Robbie Moore has welcomed the consultation, describing it as "a step in the right direction" after years of campaigning for reform.
The Government is seeking views on a range of proposals aimed at tackling the misuse of fireworks, reducing anti-social behaviour and improving safety for people, pets and wildlife.
The consultation runs until 7th October.
Robbie says he has consistently pushed for tighter controls, including raising the issue with Government ministers and leading a parliamentary debate earlier this year on behalf of more than 370,000 people who signed a petition calling for change.
He said:
"I am now determined to ensure your voice is heard and that this consultation delivers the change that is urgently needed.
"The Government's consultation is seeking your views on what actions need to be taken to toughen the law associated with fireworks.
"I know just how frustrated many people are about this.
"We suffer with fireworks being let off throughout the night by irresponsible individuals who cause misery across our neighbourhoods, distress vulnerable people, and leave pet owners living in fear."
The consultation is asking members of the public for their views on possible changes to fireworks legislation, including measures designed to reduce disruption and improve public safety.
Robbie is encouraging residents to take part before the consultation closes.
He added:
"This is a crucial opportunity to have your voice heard.
"Please make sure you have your say before 7th October and help shape the future of fireworks law."
The Government says the consultation will help inform any future changes to fireworks legislation, with feedback being gathered from members of the public, businesses and organisations before decisions are made.
