Ilkley Town Council’s Green Spaces, Environment and Sustainability Committee met on Tuesday 21 July and awarded four grants totalling £10,500 to local organisations supporting community facilities, environmental improvements and tourism.

The Committee resolved to award £3,000 to Ben Rhydding Community Benefit Society towards urgent drainage repair works at the Ben Rhydding Sports Club car park, helping to improve access and safety for users of the site.

A grant of £3,000 was also awarded to Ilkley All Saints School PTA for a roadside planting scheme, which will enhance the local environment and contribute to biodiversity and streetscape improvements.

Ilkley Manor House Trust was awarded £3,000 towards the cost of a feasibility study for a Courtyard Development Plan, supporting the organisation’s work to develop its facilities for wider community use.

In addition, Ilkley Walkers are Welcome received £1,500 towards reprint costs for the Welcome Way guidebook, which is being updated to include a walk to Ilkley, helping to bring more visitors to the area.

Chair of the Green Spaces, Environment and Sustainability Committee, Councillor Allon said:

“I am delighted that members of the Green Spaces, Environment and Sustainability Committee have agreed to award the grant application to these four local groups who serve our community and enhance the natural environment as well as the built and social environment of our town.  The GSES Committee is committed to improving all aspects of Ilkley’s environment to improve the quality of life for our residents along with enhancing visitor satisfaction”.
