A Silsden sports brand is celebrating ten years of growth by launching an exciting new venture into field hockey.
Viking Cricket has built a reputation over the past decade for producing high-quality handmade English willow cricket bats and equipment. The company’s products are trusted by everyone from grassroots players to professionals who have represented their country, like Jenny Gunn MBE. Now it is taking its first steps into another sport with the launch of Viking Hockey.
The new range of hockey sticks, including two designed specifically for junior players and three for adults, each offering different levels of carbon to suit players of different ages, abilities and styles of play.
Carbon plays a key role in modern hockey sticks. Higher carbon content creates a stiffer stick, helping players generate more power in their hits, passes and drag flicks while providing greater responsiveness. Sticks with lower carbon content offer a softer feel and more forgiveness, making them ideal for developing players looking to improve their control and technique.
Alongside the sticks, Viking Hockey will stock a growing selection of hockey equipment and accessories, with plans to expand the range over the coming months.
Founder Jeff Wilson said the move was the natural next step after establishing Viking Cricket as a respected name in sports equipment.
“Reaching ten years in business gave us the perfect opportunity to look at where we could go next. We’ve spent a decade building a reputation for quality, personal service and products that players can trust, and we’re excited to bring those same values into hockey.
“We have spent more than two years looking at and finalising the range and we’re starting with a carefully chosen selection of sticks for juniors and adults, but this is only the beginning. We have plenty of plans to grow the Viking Hockey range as more players discover what we have to offer.”

Since launching in 2016, Viking Cricket has grown from a small Yorkshire business, based on Kirkgate in Silsden, into an internationally recognised brand. The company has supplied players across the UK and overseas while remaining firmly rooted in the town, where every customer continues to receive expert advice and a personal service.
The launch of Viking Hockey reflects the company’s cotinued investment in growth while staying true to the values that have underpinned its success over the past ten years.
Wilson added:
“We’ve always believed that people appreciate good products backed by honest advice and genuine passion for sport. Whether it’s cricket or hockey, that’s exactly what we want Viking to stand for.”
Viking Hockey products are available now, with additional equipment planned as the range continues to develop.
