The Outside the Box (OTB) Band made a vibrant and thrilling debut at the Westville House School annual PTA fundraiser event on Friday 21st June.
The eagerly anticipated performance was a hit, setting the stage for what promises to be a successful future for the band.
The OTB Band, adorned colourful attire and an energetic stage presence whilst they played an eclectic mix of their original songs that they've been perfecting during their dedicated practice sessions every Friday for months. Their performance provided a lively backdrop to the drinks reception, adding an extra layer of excitement and engagement to the evening.
Biba Barrett, a Westville House School PTA member said:
“We were thrilled to welcome the Outside the Box Band to our annual PTA fundraiser event last Friday night. The band arrived promptly and entertained the guests as they arrived, providing a lively background to the drinks reception. It was lovely to see so many of the band's friends and families supporting them too. Well done to all involved!”
Another PTA member, added:
“What a wonderful showcase of talent, enthusiasm, and passion for the performance. Conducted with a flare for the fun-loving and talented alike.”
This debut gig was more than just a performance; it was a significant learning and confidence-boosting experience for the OTB Band. The positive feedback and support from the community have energised the band, and they are now gearing up to take Ilkley by storm with their next performance.
Imogen Dickinson, singer in the OTB Band has said of the performance:
“It was amazing, I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to do more!”
Richard Allen, The Drummer in the OTB Band said:
“I had lots of fun with everyone, I got to play the drums louder and people clapped, I liked that! I would like to do it again.”
Joe Moy, OTB Band Leader expressed his pride in the success of their first performance:
“I am so proud of all the members, for what they have all achieved in a short period of time. Here’s to many more to come and a huge well done to all involved.”
Formed as part of OTB's varied choices sessions which provide opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, the OTB Band began their journey in May 2024 and is formed by members who have a passion for music. This inclusive and talented group has been exploring a variety of instruments and genres, allowing their creativity to flourish. With dedication and enthusiasm, they've also started composing their own original songs, showcasing their unique musical talents and voices.
