Campervan and motorhome visitors can now enjoy a sunset at the Cow and Calf Rocks as overnight parking is approved for three places in the Bradford district.
Bradford Council have released details of three places in the district where people will be permitted to park up for an overnight stay in a self-contained motorhome or campervan.
The tourism spots where overnight stays are permitted are the car park at the Cow and Calf Rocks in Ilkley, the main car park at Penistone Country Park in Haworth and Eaves car park on Baildon Moor. Each of these car parks has capacity for two or three vehicles in front of the signage.
All three carparks are surrounded by beautiful countryside and are close to towns or villages with lots of amenities for visitors.
Those choosing to park up at the iconic Cow and Calf Rocks, Ilkley can enjoy the stunning scenery, take a short walk to the nearby pub for food and drinks, as well as get breakfast at the local cafe at this iconic location in the Bradford district. The car park is also a short drive from the popular spa town.
Bronte lovers stopping over in the car park at Haworth’s Penistone Country Park can walk the moors which inspired the writing of these famous sisters. Local walks from the car park include the Bronte Waterfalls Walk and a walk to Top Withens, thought to be the inspiration for Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. The village of Haworth is also within easy reach, with its many independent shops, pubs, cafes and attractions. A trip to Haworth isn’t complete without visiting the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway famous as the setting for the Railway Children films.
Baildon Moor is a popular place for walking with fine views across the Aire Valley to the south and west, and Rombald's Moor to the north. Shipley Glen is also close by with the Victorian Shipley Glen Tramway which links visitors with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire. Eaves car park is also a short walk from Baildon town centre with plenty of independent shops, pubs and eateries.
Those using the car parks for overnight stays are asked to only stay a maximum of two consecutive nights with no return within five nights and as there are no facilities, only campervans and motorhomes which are self-contained (i.e. have their own toilet facilities) are allowed.
Visitors are reminded that Bradford Council has a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in place which ban the use of barbeques, fires, sky lanterns and fireworks to protect the natural beauty of these outdoor spaces from wildfires.
Councillor Alex Ross-shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said:
“We are delighted that we’ve been able to offer overnight parking for self-contained motorhomes and campervans at these three places. We hope that they will encourage visitors to come and enjoy exploring our district which has so much to offer, especially this year as there will be more events taking place across the district while we are the UK City of Culture for 2025.”
