The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale has joined with The Rotary Club of Erfurt-Gloriosa for ‘Ars Musica’, a special ‘acapella’ concert on 28th June in aid of children’s charities in Ilkley.
The Ars Musica Male Voice Choir, from Thuringia in the heart of Germany, is an ‘acapella’ choir, a choir without instrumental accompaniment. The choir has developed from the renowned Thuringian boys' choir from Suhl founded in 1972. Over 50 years of performing has created the choir of outstanding ability and quality that it is today.
Today, Ars Musica consists of around forty singers who, despite their geographical distribution all over Germany and Europe, meet regularly in their Thuringian homeland to rehearse.
In addition to making music together, the choir community is united in its social commitment. The choir regularly uses its performances to raise funding to support social projects in Thuringia and further afield. On their concert tours at home and abroad, the singers inspire audiences with their music and, together with local organisations, support social projects of all kinds.
A spokesperson said:
“In 2025, the concert tour is taking the choir to West Yorkshire where, once again, the trip also aims to promote charitable causes. The choir concert will be used to further the work of Ilkley Children’s Charities such as Nell Bank and LS29.
“We invite you to this special ‘acapella’ choir concert with sacred and secular music from Germany, England, Europe and other parts of the world. The artistic director Maik Gruchenberg will also perform organ works from various eras.”
The concert is on Saturday 28th June starting at 7.30pm. The venue, St Margaret’s Church is on Queens Road in Ilkley.
Tickets are £10 and available online at https://www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/page.php?PgID=973326&ClubID=1826
