The Carriage, based in the centre of Burley in Wharfedale is celebrating a double dose of success this year — not only has it been shortlisted for the National Bed Federation’s (NBF) Small Retailer of the Year award, but it’s also proudly marking its 10th year in business.
This incredible milestone, during tricky retail trading conditions generally, makes the national recognition even more special, highlighting a decade of dedication to quality product and outstanding customer service. The NBF Awards are considered the most prestigious accolades in the UK bed industry, and being shortlisted is a testament to The Carriage’s hard work, passion, and unwavering customer focus.
Since opening its doors ten years ago, The Carriage has grown into being the destination for beautifully crafted beds, mattresses, including premium UK manufacturers, Harrison Spinks Somnus, Vispring and luxury bed maker Enchanted House. Over the years, it has built a loyal customer base, not just in the Wharfe Valley, but across the Yorkshire region and beyond . Adding a second shop based in Guiseley in 2022 offering the trusted Carriage brand but with a wider range of affordable premium brands including Harrison Spinks and Highgrove, both shops are known for their warm welcome, expert advice, and commitment to quality.
To be recognised by the National Bed Federation as one of the UK’s leading small retailers is no small achievement. The awards celebrate innovation, service excellence, product knowledge, and business success — all of which The Carriage has embodied over the past decade.

Owner Vicky Golding said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted. Reaching our 10th anniversary is such a proud moment, and this recognition feels like the perfect way to celebrate everything we’ve worked so hard to build. We’re so grateful to our customers, who’ve supported us over the years”
The NBF Awards will take place later this month at the prestigious Bed Show in Telford, where the winners will be announced. Whether or not they take home the top prize, The Carriage’s team has every reason to be proud. A decade of success in independent retail is a major accomplishment — and being recognised as one of the country’s best small bed retailers is the icing on the cake.
