Ilkley Town Council has installed a brand-new water refill station, enabling residents and visitors to fill their water bottles free of charge.
The new refill station is available at the South Hawksworth Street Car Park, located on the outside of the public conveniences, facing the car park.
Councillor Catherine Cheater first raised the idea with the Council’s Green Spaces, Environment and Sustainability Committee. Councillor Cheater says:
“It is hoped that the availability of this refill station will help to promote sustainability, and to reduce waste from single-use plastic water bottles by encouraging the use of reusable water bottles. The environmental impact of single-use plastic is serious and damaging. This station will provide members of the public with free access to safe drinking water, which will help to promote hydration and health.”
Ilkley’s new Town Mayor, Jane Gibson, commented:
"This is a fantastic addition to the town and we hope that people will benefit from easy access to drinking water when out and about in Ilkley."
