Pupils at Westville House School in Ilkley have raised an impressive £1,136.90 for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity.
This money will fund vital respite breaks for children facing adverse childhood experience such as; trauma, abuse, poverty, serious illness, disabilities and increasingly, mental health challenges.
The funds were raised through a year-long series of events organised by the school’s Junior Leadership Team (JLT). Throughout the academic year, the students demonstrated exceptional dedication through fundraising events including:
- JLT Valentine's Bake Sale
- JLT Christmas Movie Night
- Halloween Bake Sale
- Hockney Christmas Fair
- Bronte Easter House Fair
- Cook Summer Fun Day
The donation will directly provide a free week-long respite break and food hamper for two families. These breaks offer children and their families a crucial opportunity to rest, reconnect, and create lasting memories away from the pressures they face in everyday life.
Kerry Magson, Partnerships & Engagement Manager at The Principle Trust, expressed her gratitude for the partnership:
“A very special thank you must go to the fantastic Junior Leadership Team. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm, creativity, and kindness they have shown throughout the year. There is something incredibly powerful about children choosing to support other children, and they should all be immensely proud of what they have achieved.”
Rebecca Mountain, Form One Teacher and Deputy Safeguarding Lead at Westville House School, added:
“We’re very proud of the children’s fundraising achievements this year. Putting in hard work to help others who may not be as fortunate as oneself is a valuable learning experience.”
The Principle Trust Children’s Charity provides free week-long respite breaks to children and their families from across Yorkshire who are facing adverse childhood experiences and is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary, supporting over 6,000 families across Yorkshire.
