Developers of the new housing project on Skipton Road in Ilkley say essential drainage infrastructure works will mean a lane closure of the A65 for approximately 10 weeks.
The rolling works are scheduled to start on Monday 19th January 2026, commencing at the Victoria Avenue junction with Skipton Road and working its way out of Ilkley at around 50 metres a week. Temporary traffic signals will be used 24 hours a day during the works.
A spokesperson for Ashfield Group, who are designing and building the development on behalf of Stonewater Developments Ltd said:
“A partial lane closure on the A65 will be required to install essential drainage infrastructure for the new development. This work is necessary to ensure the site is properly serviced and meets all regulatory and environmental standards.
“We recognise that the A65 is a vital route for Ilkley residents, businesses, and visitors. Our objectives are to minimise disruption to traffic, work efficiently and safely, keep the community well-informed and complete the works as quickly as possible.”
The new development is on the former railway embankment to the west of Ilkley. Plans were approved for 35 dwellings on the green belt land in April 2026. The plans show 12 pairs of semi-detached houses, two detached houses and one three storey block of 9 apartments.
At the time of approval an S106 agreement says the dwellings on the site must be 'affordable dwellings', with 60% 'rented affordable housing units' and 40% 'shared ownership affordable housing units'.
Once construction work has started, planning permission states this shall only be carried out between the hours of 0730 and 1800 on Mondays to Fridays, 0730 and 1300 on Saturdays and at no time on Sundays, Bank or Public Holidays.
