Bradford Council has this evening (Monday) said it has taken the difficult decision to not empty household bins on Tuesday 7 January.
Posting on its Facebook page, the council says this is due to the forecasted temperatures being well below zero overnight and into tomorrow morning, icy roads and pavements and potential additional snowfall.
The council says:
"Whilst all the main routes are fine, the side roads are difficult for our vehicles and crews and there is a significant risk to staff, pedestrians and other vehicles. Unfortunately there has already been a number of incidents and injuries.
"If it is possible, please put your bins out as normal and leave them out, we will attempt to empty them when it is safe to do so. Additional side waste (recycling or general waste) will be taken if in tied black bags at the side of your bin.
"The two main household waste sites at Bowling Back Lane (Bradford) and Royd Ings Avenue (Keighley) will be open from 9am Tuesday (subject to weather conditions allowing so). All other HWRCs will remain closed on Tuesday for safety purposes.
"We ask that residents only travel to the two open HWRCs if absolutely necessary."
Bradford Council say the situation will be re-assessed on Tuesday afternoon and information posted its social media channels and bulletins.
