Ilkley community delivers 240 Easter food parcels

Man Cave entertaining the volunteers at The Craiglands Hotel

The Ilkley community joined forces once again to deliver 240 Easter food parcels to children eligible for free school meals, easing pressure on families facing rising food prices.

The large-scale local effort provided nutritious essentials, treats, and fresh produce to children across local schools, ensuring families had support over the holiday period.

Organised by Ilkley Great Get Together, with help from volunteers, businesses, charities and schools, who all played a vital role in assembling and distributing the parcels.

Contributions included fresh vegetables donated by Tucker at Ilkley Moor Fruit and Veg, 200 loaves supplied by Hovis, muffins from Mike at Speedibake. Local foodbank partners provided steady support, while Ilkley Community Transport managed collection and delivery logistics so parcels reached families without transport.

Financial backing and in-kind donations made the effort possible. Ilkley Rotary donated £3,500 and Ilkley Town Council continues to support the programme with an annual £8,000 contribution.

Community groups and individuals also stepped up: chick knitters including Soroptimists and Clevedon made comforting contributions, local friends donated Easter eggs and biscuits, and Man Cave brought local cheer by serenading volunteers during packing. Craiglands Hotel generously provided space for the packing operation, helping the team work efficiently and comfortably.
