TV producer and journalist Tony Parker from Burley-in-Wharfedale is showcasing a new series of original prints in Ilkley charting his travels at home and abroad.
Tony has worked in factual TV production for more than 30 years, and now changing the moving image for the still image, his exhibition of prints ‘Art on the Move’ is on display at Weaverbird Workshop on Wells Road throughout September.
Working from a studio at home, Tony has taken inspiration from places and people in Eastern Europe, Scotland and of course Wharfedale and said:
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to display my work so close to home and in a fantastic location.
“I try to record and reflect on images from my various travels, either for work or on holiday. Recently I’ve enjoyed travelling to Moldova including the capital city of Chisinau.”
Most of Tony’s images are drypoint prints – drypoint is a form of engraving where a design/image is scratched onto a plate (often metal or acetate). Ink is then applied to the plate. Finally, paper is placed on the plate and run through a printing press.
Tony adds:
“I’m also lucky to be a regular visitor to Scotland, particularly the wild coast around the village of Tayvallich in Argyll.
“My journey in art started as a young student in the 1980s learning all about etching and screen printing. In recent years I’ve returned to printing.
“Hopefully people will enjoy the eclectic nature of my work.”
