Council launches major consultation on housing

Have your say on the future of housing across Ilkley and the wider Bradford district.

A major public consultation about the future of housing across the Bradford district was launched this week, giving residents the chance to shape how their communities grow, change and thrive in the years ahead.

Bradford Council is inviting people who live, work or have a stake in the district to share what matters most to them about housing from affordability and energy efficiency, to the design of homes, the feel of neighbourhoods, and how housing can better support people at different stages of life.

Rather than simply asking for opinions on policy, the consultation is about understanding how people want to live, what makes a good home, and how housing can help create stronger, healthier and more connected communities.

Key consultation topics include:

  • Access to genuinely affordable homes
  • Creating energy-efficient, sustainable places to live
  • The quality, design and comfort of homes
  • Revitalising existing neighbourhoods and estates

Bradford Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Transport and Planning Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw said:

“Housing demand is continuing to rise across the country and is something which affects every part of our lives — our health, our finances, our families and our sense of belonging. That’s why we want to hear directly from people about what matters to them.

“We are committed to ensuring that homes across the district meet the needs of local people — from young families to older residents, and all those in-between. It’s easy to give your view and all feedback will be collated to shape the way housing is delivered.

“Whether you rent or own, are looking for a home, or have lived in the same neighbourhood for decades, this is a real opportunity to help shape the future of housing in Bradford and the places we all call home.”

The consultation is open to residents, community groups, partners and stakeholders, and will run online until 18 February 2026.

As the consultation progresses, the website will feature a live dashboard showing emerging themes and how people’s views are influencing the Council’s Housing Delivery Plan, so participants can see how their voices are helping to shape future decisions.
