Local community rallies around local teacher diagnosed with rare brain cancer

Fundraising efforts are being made to support a local school teacher who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer.

Lizzie Pitt, a mother of two who grew up in Ilkley, is a highly respected teacher at Skipton Girls High School and was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

Since her diagnosis, she has endured conscious brain surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and private treatment in London.

Her journey was made even harder by an early misdiagnosis.

Despite undergoing surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, Lizzie has now exhausted all available treatment options in the UK.

However, there is still hope to extend her life through specialist treatment available in Germany.

While it is not a cure, it could give Lizzie more precious time with her children but it comes at a significant cost of approximately £120,000.

Her friends and family are fundraising to raise the money needed for the treatment.

They are holding raffles featuring donated gifts, vouchers, experiences, or excursions and they have already raised over £26,000 via her GoFundMe.
