A new beer, The Ilkley Alien, has been launched by Leeds based Tartarus Beers in conjunction with Fuggle and Golding in Ilkley.
Jordan Orpen, Tartarus Beers Co-founder & Director said:
“The idea for The Ilkley Alien came about as the beer is brewed with our friend George who owns Fuggle and Golding in Ilkley.
“He mentioned an interest in having a house beer designed and brewed by us. We are a Leeds based brewery and all of our beers are named after myths and legends and we usually like to tie in the beer name with the style of the beer or the guest we are brewing with.
“The Ilkley Alien name was suggested by George, legend has it that a man was abducted by an Alien whilst walking along the Ilkley Moors in 1987. As this fit with our legend/myth theme the name was decided!”
Next was deciding what style of beer to brew, Jorden explains:
“After a discussion with George we decided that a hazy pale at around 5% would be the best style of beer to have as his house beer, the particular style is definitely a more popular choice in the craft beer scene and should be easy drinking for most.
“Our head brewer Jack designed the recipe to be a 5.5% Double Dry Hopped Hazy Pale brewed with wheat and oats to produce a hazy beer with a thick mouthfeel. As with us and other craft breweries, choosing which hops to use is a big decision. As Sabro and Motueka are some of George's favourite hops, we used this plus Idaho - 7 in the whirlpool and dry hop. These hops together give tropical and stonefruit flavours with a coconut undertone in the beer.
“We think the beer is delicious, make sure to try it if you see it around!”
The Ilkley Alien is currently available on draft & in cans at Fuggle & Golding on Leeds Road in Ilkleu. The cans can also be ordered online at www.tartarusbeers.co.uk.
Tartarus Beers also have cask, keg and cans that can being distributed around the UK to independent bars, pubs & bottle shops.
