Two Rivers will take you on a voyage of discovery

Two Rivers Concert Band will hold their Summer Concert in Ilkley Baptist Church on Sunday 19 July at 3pm.

Under the baton of musical director, Gregory Moor, they will embark on another musical voyage of discovery!

The concert opens reflectively, with a beautiful arrangement of The Seafarer’s Hymn, before arriving Stateside for A Suite of Old American Dances. From a lively cakewalk and graceful waltz to a spirited ragtime finale, this colourful suite is a concert in itself!

The band will then head to the world of film as Woody and Buzz return for the adventures of Toy Story 2, before celebrating the music of Dutch icon Shaffy in a vibrant pop medley, and closing the first half with the infectious energy and irresistible rhythms of the musical Hairspray.

After the interval, it’s a revisit to Bach’s Toccata in D minor, in an exciting and unexpected arrangement, followed by the serenely expressive tone poem O Cool is the Valley. The thoughtful mood continues with a powerful arrangement of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence, inspired by its dramatic reinterpretation by heavy metal group Disturbed. Then the audience will travel to the Iberian Peninsula in Embers of the Ancient Realms by American composer Michele Fernandez. Inspired by Spain's rich cultural heritage, the work draws on Moorish influences and features an expanded percussion section to evoke a time of conflict, resilience and artistic exchange. Finally the concert will end with a selection of sweet musical treats from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the perfect teatime ending to an afternoon of musical entertainment.

(Golden) Tickets cost just £10, free for those aged 16 and under, and are available from The Grove Bookshop, online at www.tworiversbands.org.uk or can be bought on the door. Admission includes a programme, plus an interval drink and plentiful homemade cakes baked by Band members.

There will also be a collection in aid of The Swan Song Project. This small Leeds based charity gives people planning the end stages of their lives and those surrounding them the opportunity to write and record their own original song. This musical celebration of life brings comfort and joy, leaving a legacy that helps loved-ones as they deal with bereavement.
