Ilkley MP Robbie Moore has criticised the Government following the release of a convicted rapist who abused grooming gang survivor Fiona Goddard.
Mohammed Usman was one of nine men convicted in 2019 of offences against Ms Goddard following a trial at Bradford Crown Court.
The men were found guilty of 22 offences and received sentences totalling more than 130 years.
Usman was convicted of two counts of rape and initially jailed for 17 years. His sentence was subsequently reduced to 15 years on appeal.
Ms Goddard was 14 and living in care when the abuse began. She later waived her legal right to anonymity and has become a prominent campaigner for survivors of child sexual exploitation.
She was informed by her Victim Liaison Officer that Usman was due to be released on Monday 24th August, halfway through his 15-year sentence.
Mr Moore, the Conservative MP for Keighley and Ilkley, wrote to the Prime Minister earlier this month demanding government intervention before Usman’s planned release.
He has now renewed that call, accusing the Prime Minister of failing to help despite repeated requests.
Mr Moore said:
“Utterly incomprehensible. The Prime Minister has done nothing to help, despite being asked, repeatedly.
“It is outrageous that Fiona Goddard has been forced to move out of her own home for fear, as one of her abusers is imminently due to be released from jail after serving just half his sentence.
“Mohammed Usman was originally sentenced to 15 years in prison, following the heinous sexual crimes he committed against Fiona when she was just 14 years old.
“His release must be stopped.”
Mr Moore has campaigned alongside Ms Goddard for a statutory national inquiry into grooming gangs and child sexual exploitation.
He said the Government had a responsibility to protect survivors from further trauma when offenders were released.
Mr Moore added:
“All victims and survivors deserve justice. Not to be put through huge additional stress, pain and trauma as their perpetrators are released early and permitted to walk free.
“I call on the Prime Minister again. He must act now, intervene and stop it.”
