66 poppies displayed in Menston to honour fallen servicemen

The poppies have been funded by Menston Parish Council and installed as a Menston Community Association project.

A total of 66 poppies have been displayed along Main Street in Menston to commemorate local servicemen who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars.

The display has been expanded this year, with 16 additional poppies installed in memory of the 16 men from the village and parish who died during the Second World War.

They join the 50 poppies displayed last year to honour those who lost their lives during the First World War.

Two poppies have been placed on each lamppost along Main Street, creating a tribute ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The poppies have been funded by Menston Parish Council and installed as a Menston Community Association project.

The village's Remembrance Sunday parade and service will take place on Sunday 8 November at the memorials outside Kirklands Community Centre.

Participants will assemble at 10.30am, with the service beginning at 10.45am.

Refreshments will be served inside the community centre afterwards, with indoor seating available for anyone who needs it.

A further short service will be held at the same location on Wednesday 11th November, beginning at 10.45am.

This will include a one-minute silence at 11am to mark Armistice Day.

Residents are welcome to attend the commemorations and pay their respects to those who lost their lives in conflict.
