Ilkley & District u3a is inviting local residents to enjoy a relaxed and nostalgic 1980s Quiz Afternoon on Thursday 12th March 2026, from 1:30pm to 4pm, at The Wheatley Arms in Ben Rhydding.
The choice of theme is intentional. Many people approaching retirement or recently retired, grew up in the 1980s, and organisers hope the decade’s music, films and cultural touchstones will offer a warm, familiar way for newcomers to meet others and discover what u3a has to offer. The event is open to everyone, not just members, and individuals are welcome to come alone — friendly teams will be formed on the day.
The quiz will cover music, television, fashion and memorable moments from the decade, with modest prizes and plenty of light hearted competition. More importantly, it provides an easy, low pressure introduction to the social side of u3a.
A spokesperson for Ilkley & District u3a said:
“Moving from full time work into retirement is a big life change, and staying socially connected makes all the difference. u3a is a brilliant way to keep active, keep learning and meet people who share your interests. This quiz is a fun way to take that first step.”
u3a groups across the country offer opportunities to learn new skills, explore hobbies, and build friendships in later life. Our local u3a has over 2,000 members and organises approaching 150 groups, from walking and languages to art, technology, railways and local history. So, there is bound to be something of interest to join.
Entry to the quiz is free, but places are limited. To book, email Quiz@ilkleyu3a.org or leave a message on 0300 102 4543. Search Ilkley u3a online for more information.
