A well-known Ilkley property to go under the hammer

A rare renovation project has gone on the market in Ilkley, to be sold by auction.

A building in the heart of Ilkley town centre, that offers spacious living accommodation and was previously home to a longstanding and well-known electrical appliance retailer and repairer, is for sale with Dacre, Son & Hartley’s auction service, with a guide price of just £180,000.

The building on Railway Road is known locally as Clegg’s. The business opened in Ilkley in 1939 and sold batteries, radios and other electrical products before it started selling and renting out TVs on a weekly basis. It moved from The Grove to Railway Road in the 1980s and was owned and run by popular local man, Michael Clegg. Following his passing last year, the business closed after serving generations of customers in Ilkley.

The property, which needs completely modernising, is arranged over two floors and includes the former retail space, a reception room, kitchen and a substantial cellar. The first floor provides three bedrooms and a house bathroom. There is also a small outdoor space at the side of the building.
