A rare renovation project has gone on the market in Ilkley, to be sold by auction.
A building in the heart of Ilkley town centre, that offers spacious living accommodation and was previously home to a longstanding and well-known electrical appliance retailer and repairer, is for sale with Dacre, Son & Hartley’s auction service, with a guide price of just £180,000.
The building on Railway Road is known locally as Clegg’s. The business opened in Ilkley in 1939 and sold batteries, radios and other electrical products before it started selling and renting out TVs on a weekly basis. It moved from The Grove to Railway Road in the 1980s and was owned and run by popular local man, Michael Clegg. Following his passing last year, the business closed after serving generations of customers in Ilkley.
The property, which needs completely modernising, is arranged over two floors and includes the former retail space, a reception room, kitchen and a substantial cellar. The first floor provides three bedrooms and a house bathroom. There is also a small outdoor space at the side of the building.

Paul Wilson, a director from Dacre, Son & Hartley, said:
“This is a property many local people will recognise and the auction presents a fantastic opportunity for buyers looking for a renovation project in central Ilkley.
“Opportunities to acquire and transform a property with this level of potential in such a prominent location, close to all Ilkley’s shops, cafés, restaurants and transport links, are very rare.”
Dacre, Son & Hartley has partnered with the UK’s largest auction provider, iamsold, and offers the Modern Method of Auction (MMoA) across its 17-strong office network in North and West Yorkshire. The approach blends the transparency of traditional auctions with the convenience of online bidding, allowing buyers to make offers at any time of day and the company has sold dozens of homes across the region for well above their starting prices.
