An appeal has been made following the theft of an MBE medal belonging to Mike Davies, the founder of The Principle Trust Children’s Charity.
The medal was taken during a burglary at his home in the Curly Hill area of Ilkley on Saturday evening.
A safe was reported stolen from the property, containing the MBE awarded to Mr Davies in 2017 in recognition of his work supporting disadvantaged children and families across Yorkshire.
The charity has asked members of the public to come forward if they have any information that could help locate the medal.
The Principle Trust Children’s Charity was founded in 2011 and provides free respite breaks for children and families facing disadvantage, disability, trauma or financial hardship.
The charity operates a policy where all donations go directly towards its services and has supported more than 5,400 children across Yorkshire.
Respite breaks are offered at locations including Blackpool, Filey and Lake Windermere, with the aim of improving wellbeing and reducing stress for families.
Mr Davies has previously spoken about his personal experiences growing up, which influenced his decision to establish the charity.
The organisation has also recently announced plans to expand its work to include additional mental health support for young people.
Mike Davies said the medal held significant personal and collective meaning, representing the efforts of the volunteers, trustees and supporters involved in the charity’s work.
He has asked anyone who may have information about the medal or its whereabouts to contact the police.
North Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call 101.
Members of the public are also being encouraged to check local online marketplaces in case the medal or the stolen safe is offered for sale.
