Churches Together in Ilkley and local reading groups are supporting 'Buy a Book for Bradford', a community drive asking Ilkley residents to donate new or nearly new children’s story books this December.
The initiative aims to get books into the hands of children in Bradford with limited access to reading materials as the UK marks 2026 as the Year of Reading.
Organisers encourage people to buy one or two story books while preparing for the festive season. Donations for babies and toddlers will be passed on to Bradford Baby Bank, while books for older children (up to age 11) will be distributed through partner schools serving economically disadvantaged areas.

The Grove Bookshop has created a curated list of age-appropriate titles and will hold donated books for organisers to collect.
Please let Elizabeth Hall know if you have new or nearly new books to donate, Elizabeth’s email is hueydog@icloud.com.
Elizabeth said:
“We hope the Year of Reading will be able to start off with some fun for Bradford children, from the generosity of people in Ilkley this month."
