Explore with The Friends of Ilkley Moor this month

The Friends of Ilkley Moor [FOIM] have three events in June, which between them will offer attendees an understanding of habitat management and restoration, a chance to discover the birds on the moor, and also explore the highest part of the moor.

Booking is essential for all events, details at the bottom of this article.

Habitat Management and Footpath Maintenance - Tuesday 16 June 10am-1.00pm

Meeting at Darwin Gardens car park, a moderate walk to gain skills and understanding in upland habitat management and restoration. This event is an informative and practical conservation morning to help manage and restore the habitats of Ilkley Moor and maintain a network of footpaths. Learn why the provision of a hardwearing network of footpaths helps protect the adjacent habitats and species. Meet the regular volunteers who go out each week to help conserve the heritage of Ilkley Moor. This walk is not suitable to dogs.

Heritage Walk: Across Crawshaw Moss and Neolithic Sites - Saturday 20 June 2pm-4pm

Meeting at White Wells car park, a 4-mile strenuous walk starting on the lower slopes and gradually climbing to the Twelve Apostles standing stones; continuing to the Trig Point at 1,281 feet: the highest point on Ilkley Moor; and returning down Keighley Road. A strenuous walk, with uphill climbing. This walk uses rough moorland tracks and crosses boggy terrain. Dogs are welcome on leads.

The Birds of Ilkley Moor - Sunday 21 June 9am-11am

Meeting at White Wells car park, a guided walk to discover the birds of Ilkley Moor, which forms part of the South Pennine Moors Special Protection Area (SPA) designated under the European Union Bird’s Directive for its internationally important breeding birds. FOIM say this is a moderate walk with dogs welcome on a lead, and to bring binoculars if you have them.

Further details of FOIM events can be found at https://www.ilkleymoor.org/events-learning-opportunities/

Booking for these three events are essential by contacting Tracy Gray on tracy@ilkleymoor.org or 07780 535860. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
