Ilkley Fire Station has thanked the community for its support after a “fantastic turnout” for its annual Open Day.
The event was held on Saturday 25th July, giving visitors the chance to meet firefighters, see their equipment up close and learn more about fire and water safety.
Among the highlights was the station’s new 4x4 MAN fire appliance, while firefighters staged a series of road traffic collision demonstrations to show how crews rescue casualties from vehicles.
Safe cooking was also a key theme, with a chip pan demonstration trailer used to highlight the dangers of leaving cooking unattended.
Ed Poulter, Crew Manager at Ilkley Fire Station, said:
“Our open day is all about giving the community an insight into the work firefighters do here at Ilkley Fire Station. Whether that's responding to moorland fires, road traffic collisions or water rescues on the River Wharfe.
"It's also a chance to share important safety messages that can help prevent emergencies from happening in the first place.
“We were delighted by the fantastic turnout this year. Visitors enjoyed learning through demonstrations such as the chip pan trailer and water flume, and seeing our new 4x4 MAN fire appliance up close, which will help us reach incidents in difficult terrain across the district."
Bingley Blue Watch brought along its water flume to demonstrate the dangers associated with rivers and moving water, while representatives from Mountain Rescue and West Yorkshire Police offered advice on staying safe on the moors and protecting personal belongings.
Climate Action Ilkley attended to promote the community orchard and its ongoing work to care for and water fruit trees.
The Good Heating Company offered energy advice and handed out free carbon monoxide detectors, while Alpkit Ilkley provided an axe-throwing activity for visitors.
Food and refreshments were available throughout the day from Blooms Coffee Bar and The Ilkley Kitchen.
