Entries for the 2026 Ilkley Half Marathon and Ilkley 5K will open next Monday [20th October], promising another unforgettable weekend of sport, community spirit, and scenic running in the heart of Wharfedale.
Organised by the Ilkley & District Round Table, the event has become one of the region’s most anticipated races since its launch, attracting runners from across the UK to experience Ilkley’s warm hospitality and breathtaking surroundings. The 2026 edition, taking place on Sunday 12th July, will once again offer two race options: the 13.1-mile Ilkley Half Marathon, designed for experienced runners and those chasing personal bests, and the Ilkley 5K, a shorter, family-friendly route ideal for newcomers and local participants keen to be part of the action.
The Ilkley Half Marathon has become much more than a race - it has become a true community celebration. At the heart of the event is the Event Village, which will be open throughout the day, creating a lively festival atmosphere for runners and spectators alike. Visitors can look forward to a wide range of local food and drink stalls, a bar area serving post-race refreshments from Bini Brew, and live music and entertainment that will keep the energy levels high throughout the day. The Event Village will also feature a charity and sponsor zone, showcasing the organisations and businesses that help make the event possible.
Every participant in both the Half Marathon and the 5K will receive a bespoke 2026 finisher’s medal along with well-deserved refreshments as they cross the finish line. For many, the medals have become a treasured memento of achievement and community pride, symbolising not just a race completed, but support for local good causes.

“I’ve taken part in a few half marathons, but Ilkley is definitely one of the best. The atmosphere is so friendly, and the support along the route really keeps you going - especially on the hills! The event village at the finish was brilliant too, with great food and live music. You can tell it’s organised by people who care about the community”
commented a previous Ilkley Half Marathon runner.
As in previous years, the event will raise funds for local charities and community initiatives. Through Ilkley & District Round Table, all proceeds will be reinvested into projects that directly benefit the people of Ilkley and the surrounding areas. Over the years, the event has helped support numerous local causes, youth programmes and volunteer groups, strengthening the community bonds that make the town so special.
Event Director Pete Haigh said
“The Ilkley Half Marathon and 5K are all about bringing people together - runners, supporters, and the wider community. The route is stunning, the atmosphere is electric, and every step helps support fantastic local causes. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for 2026.”
The Ilkley Half Marathon route takes runners along the picturesque Wharfe Valley, combining rolling countryside views with an encouraging and supportive atmosphere. The race has gained a reputation for being both fast and friendly, with local residents lining the course to cheer runners along. The Ilkley 5K follows a shorter but equally scenic route, offering an accessible challenge for families, first-time runners and those simply looking to enjoy the event-day buzz.
Runners of all abilities are encouraged to sign up as soon as entries open next week. Both races regularly sell out, with more than 2,000 runners expected to take part across the two distances in 2026.
