Ilkley Harriers is inviting runners to take part in a special evening 5k highlighting women’s right to feel safe and confident exercising outdoors after dark.
The club is bringing back its ‘Lift the Curfew’ event on Tuesday 27th October following the success of last year’s run. Held in support of the This Girl Can campaign, the event will be a friendly and inclusive social 5k open to runners of all abilities and paces. The campaign aims to draw attention to the barriers women can face when exercising outdoors during the darker evenings and encourage women to feel confident being active at any time of day. Men are also being encouraged to take part and show their support for the campaign. Participants will meet at Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club between 6.30pm and 7pm, with the run getting underway at 7pm. After completing the 5k, runners are invited to return to the tennis club's café bar for drinks and a chance to socialise. Ilkley Harriers said: “Following the great success of last year's event, Ilkley Harriers are once again supporting the This Girl Can campaign with a friendly, inclusive 5k social run, highlighting women's right to feel safe and confident running outdoors after dark. “All abilities and paces welcome, and men are encouraged to come along and show their support too!” Places can be booked in advance through Eventbrite here
