Ilkley Town Council currently has two vacancies for non-councillor members on its Planning Committee and is inviting local residents to get involved.
The Planning Committee usually meets on the second Tuesday of each month, from 6pm, to consider and comment on planning applications within the Ilkley parish area. These meetings allow the Town Council to provide feedback to the local planning authority (Bradford Metropolitan District Council) on behalf of the community.
Although the Town Council does not have the power to approve or reject planning applications, the Committee plays an important role in representing local views. Members use their local knowledge to help ensure that the town’s character, environment, and needs are properly considered in planning decisions.
Ilkley Town Council welcomes applications from residents who have enthusiasm for local planning matters or experience of the planning process or relevant legislation. You don’t need to be a planning expert — just interested in helping ensure Ilkley’s voice is heard.
Under Section 102(3) of the Local Government Act 1972, Town Councils are permitted to appoint non-councillors to committees and sub-committees, and Ilkley Town Council is keen to involve residents who wish to support this important work.
If you are interested in volunteering as a non-councillor member of the Planning Committee, please contact the Town Council office for more information or to download a form visit the website: https://www.ilkleytowncouncil.gov.uk/2025/12/ilkley-town-council-invites-volunteers-to-join-its-planning-committee-2/. The closing date for applications is Friday 16th January 2026.
