Improving Ilkley have announced the launch of Phase 2 of the Ilkley Fountain project, a community-led enhancement to the popular fountain at Mill Ghyll.
Building on the success of Phase 1, the charity will lead delivery and project management to remove the surrounding wall, install high-quality stone paving, add new planting and create additional seating — improving access, comfort and the overall aesthetics of this well-loved town centre focal point.
Since its installation over a year ago, the Ilkley Fountain has become a regular meeting place and landmark for residents and visitors. Phase 2 aims to make the area more welcoming and usable throughout the year by opening sight lines, providing better circulation space and introducing durable, attractive materials that reflect local character.

[Alan Titchmarsh open the new fountain in April 2025 and said it brought "such life" to the town centre]
A spokesperson said:
"The area around the fountain will be clean, durable and timeless, with a strong sense of place.
"The much-missed 'monkey-rack’ seating will return in spirit, offering outward- facing views down Brook Street, while the central area will remain flexible for seasonal features.
"We're keeping the design smart and sustainable - minimising maintenance and using quality materials, including the names of benefactors around the fountain's base and with appropriate lighting."
Fundraising for Phase 2 is underway. As with the first phase, donors who contribute £250 or more via the project’s JustGiving page will be offered the opportunity to have their name permanently marked at the site.
